U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury used her social media platform on August 20, 2025, to address several issues including union protections at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), opportunities for Congressional internships, and public warnings about scams related to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA).
In a post from August 20, Stansbury wrote: “ICYMI: @EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is not only gutting protections for the environment, but also gutting workforce protections by trying to terminate union contracts at the EPA. This is union busting, full stop. This move weakens the rights of workers and allows Trump to fire”. The statement highlights her concerns over actions taken by EPA leadership regarding both environmental and labor protections.
Later that day, she shared appreciation for interns in her office and encouraged others to apply: “We love our interns! Want to know what it’s like to be a Congressional intern? Meet Kylie, who interned in our District Office this summer, and get the inside scoop. We’re already gearing up for fall—but if you’d like to apply for a spring internship, visit our website: https://t.co/9SJCqpGF28”.
On the evening of August 20, Stansbury issued a warning about fraudulent activity connected with RECA: “Friends, scammers are trying to capitalize on the expansion of RECA! Stay diligent, don’t give out personal information to anyone you don’t trust, and if you have any questions, please call our office at (505) 346-6781 or the NM DOJ at (505) 490-4060.”
Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico in Congress since winning a special election in 2021 against Mark Moores. She secured reelection in subsequent cycles against Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 and Steve Jones in 2024.
