Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a U.S. Congresswoman representing New Mexico’s 1st district since 2021, posted a series of statements on July 24, 2025, addressing issues ranging from environmental legislation to the federal minimum wage and congressional accountability.
In a tweet posted at 17:36 UTC on July 24, Stansbury criticized efforts to weaken environmental protections: “It’s never enough, is it? Time and time again, they keep coming back trying to gut our environmental laws. This week, the GOP was back trying to gut NEPA—after they just passed their Big Ugly Bill three weeks ago! NEPA gives our communities a voice in decisions on our air,” she wrote.
Later that day at 19:11 UTC, Stansbury marked the anniversary of the last federal minimum wage increase with another post: “Today marks 16 years since the last increase to the federal minimum wage. That’s right, minimum wage is STILL $7.25 an hour. Nobody can survive, let alone thrive, on $7.25 an hour. Hard work should be enough to put food on the table and build a better future. In NM, we’ve fought”.
At 20:50 UTC on July 24, Stansbury commented on recent congressional actions and redistricting practices: “Congress has left the building! But instead of doing their jobs, the GOP is sending everyone home to shield Trump from accountability. Meanwhile, they’ve launched a new scheme to cheat in the midterms: gerrymandering congressional districts across the country.”
Melanie Stansbury succeeded Deb Haaland as representative for New Mexico’s 1st district in 2021 after previously serving in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. Born in Farmington in 1979 and currently residing in Albuquerque at age 44, Stansbury holds a BA from Saint Mary’s College of California (2002).
