Later that day, Stansbury criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies, specifically addressing rising consumer prices and recent tariff announcements. In her post she stated: “Trump promised to lower prices on Day 1. Instead, everything is getting more expensive! Eggs, meat, milk, coffee…everything.

Now, he’s announcing MORE tariffs to try to pressure Greenland. This is not ok.

We know that so many are struggling to get by, which is why we’re https://t.co/kcZ63ycPsw” (January 18, 2026).

On January 19, Stansbury marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day by quoting Dr. King: “Somewhere we must come to see that social progress never rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and persistent work of dedicated individuals.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 19, 2026).

Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s first congressional district since winning a special election in 2021 against Mark Moores with approximately 60% of the vote. She retained her seat in subsequent elections against Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 and Steve Jones in 2024 with majorities of roughly 56% each time.
