U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury has used her social media platform to reflect on recent community engagement and ongoing concerns about a federal government shutdown. Stansbury, who represents New Mexico and has previously won elections against Steve Jones in 2024, Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022, and Mark Moores in 2021, posted several updates on her official account.

On October 3, 2025, Stansbury shared a quote that she described as resonant for the current moment: “At least you know exactly who your friends are. They’re the ones with matching scars.” She added, “Feels very right for this moment. We see you, @taylorswift13. #TheLifeofaCongresswoman.”

The following day, after hosting a public meeting in Albuquerque amid the ongoing shutdown, Stansbury reported broad participation from constituents: “I am just leaving our Town Hall in Downtown Albuquerque, where we had hundreds join in person and online to share their thoughts, questions, and concerns about the shutdown and everything else happening right now. We were so grateful to be joined by NM Speaker of the House” (October 4, 2025).

Later that same day, she commented on efforts to support local residents during the government closure: “It’s Day 4 of the shutdown, and yesterday we volunteered at the food bank and held a huge town hall for our community. As New Mexicans, we understand we have to take care of our families and communities, which is why extending food assistance was such a focus in the Special” (October 4, 2025).

Stansbury’s recent statements highlight both her continued engagement with constituents during challenging times and her emphasis on supporting vulnerable communities through extended food assistance programs.

Melanie Stansbury’s electoral history includes defeating Steve Jones in the 2024 general election with 56.4% of the vote; she also prevailed over Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with 55.8%, and Mark Moores in a special election in 2021 with over 60% of ballots cast.
