The University of New Mexico-Taos has appointed Maisie Baca as the new director of student affairs. Baca, who began her career as an administrative assistant at UNM-Taos, brings over 30 years of experience in higher education. Her roles have included positions in financial aid, advising, and registrar at various UNM campuses.

Baca is committed to creating systems that promote equity and student success while prioritizing support and inclusive programming. She holds an associate’s degree from UNM-Taos, a bachelor’s degree from UNM, and a master’s degree in Business Management and Organizational Leadership & Change from Colorado Tech University.

Originally from Taos, New Mexico, Baca expressed enthusiasm about returning to her community to lead the student affairs team. “I am excited to bring my experience back to my community,” she said.

Christal Martinez served as interim director for seven months and will now move to the role of associate director of Admissions and Outreach. During her tenure as interim director, Martinez implemented multiple improvements within the department. In her new position, she will continue to provide leadership and support for student affairs.
