The University of New Mexico’s Center for Teaching and Learning will host its annual Get Set Reset virtual conference on August 13. The event is designed to help instructors prepare for the upcoming academic year with a series of online sessions focused on topics such as inclusive learning communities, course launch strategies, communication, and assessment.

The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and features concurrent sessions aimed at providing actionable teaching strategies for the fall semester. Some sessions are tailored specifically for teaching assistants.

Live captioning will be available for all concurrent sessions, and some will be recorded for later viewing. Each session requires a separate Zoom link.

Organizers have received positive feedback from past participants. An assistant professor who attended last year’s event said, “Participating in Get Set Reset provided me with ideas, tools, and techniques to fine-tune my teaching practice. I began the academic year with inspiring teaching goals, connections with new colleagues, and innovative methods to support students. Additionally, sharing time with dedicated faculty from across campus energized me for the start of the semester.”

This year’s program begins with a session led by Leola Tsinnajinnie Paquin, associate professor of Native American Studies and 2024-2026 Presidential Teaching Fellow. The opening talk will focus on well-being as pedagogy and supporting students during challenging times.

Other presenters include Pamela Cheek, vice provost for student success; Eva Rodriguez Gonzalez, professor and coordinator of the Spanish as a Second Language Program; and Caitlin Lippitt, lecturer in Geography and Environmental Studies.

Session topics throughout the day include general education support at UNM, community building in classrooms, restorative practices as pedagogy, course alignment strategies for student success, transparent assignment design to improve outcomes, and group reflection activities to plan next steps for the semester.

Additional resources will be available at Open Labs on August 14 from 9-10 a.m., offering further virtual support to instructors as they build their courses throughout the semester.

More information about session details and access links can be found on the program website.
