The Get Dirty OG’s, a women’s softball team from Albuquerque, secured the gold medal at the Huntsman World Senior Games held in St. George, Utah, from October 16 to 18. The tournament marked the team’s 30th anniversary and brought together athletes aged 50 and above from across the nation.
City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department Director Carolyn Ortega played a key role in the team’s success, making a diving catch that helped propel the team into the championship round. Wendy Jobin contributed with a walk-off triple to clinch the gold for the team and also earned two silver medals in track events during the competition.
Coach Shelley Gonzales expressed pride in her team’s achievement: “This is what we’ve been working toward all season. The competition was fierce, but our team’s dedication and spirit truly shone through. We’re proud to bring this medal home and celebrate with our friends and family.”
Ortega shared her thoughts on representing Albuquerque: “This experience was incredible. Our team gave everything we had on the field. It’s an honor to represent Albuquerque and bring home the gold alongside such talented and dedicated teammates.”
Mayor Tim Keller praised the team for their accomplishment: “Albuquerque is home to incredible talent and community spirit, and the Get Dirty OG’s embody both. Their three decades of teamwork and determination are inspiring enough; bringing home the gold is really next level.”
