Echoes of Albuquerque: A Collective Dialogue, a new exhibition at Gallery One in City Hall, will open on Thursday, August 28. The event features the work of Alchemy Walls, a group of muralists focused on mutual support and community engagement through public art. The opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.
The participating artists are Heather Marie Bergerson, Amaris Feland Ketcham, Chris Martinez, Roxy Tocin, and Andrew Fearnside. Alchemy Walls aims to foster community involvement and accessibility in public policy through their collaborative efforts.
The exhibition includes a range of media such as video installations, two-dimensional works, a three-dimensional sculpture, and a mural. Techniques featured include hand lettering, printmaking, and fiber art weaving. Visitors are encouraged to contribute to Symbiosis, an ongoing collaborative poem; explore questions about community in the Archive; and engage with artwork that addresses accessibility for people with different abilities.
“Echoes of Albuquerque demonstrates our various collaborative methods,” said Alchemy Walls, “including direct collaborations with our communities, direct visual dialogue among ourselves, and the indirect, interior processes of each artist.”
The show will run until October 3. Both the opening reception and regular gallery hours—10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday—are free and open to the public. Gallery One is located on the first floor of City Hall at 1 Civic Plaza NW.
