The College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico will host its annual ArtsSplash event on Wednesday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place on the east side of Cornell Mall, next to the Student Union Building.
ArtsSplash is designed to showcase programs and student work from the College of Fine Arts. The event also partners with the Arts Career Fair, which aims to connect students with potential employers in the arts sector and introduce these employers to talent within the UNM art community.
“ArtsSplash is a signature event for the college that showcases the incredible talent and skill of our students while highlighting the breadth of the College’s programs,” said Harris Smith, dean of the College of Fine Arts. “Each year, this event grows, creating new opportunities for cross-collaboration that strengthen the CFA’s ties to the greater Lobo community.”
The career fair component will be held in the lobby of the Center for the Arts building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where employers will be available for networking. Students are encouraged to bring their resumes.
“The career fair brings art organizations from across the state to the UNM campus and offers students opportunities to network for internships, jobs, and to learn more about the arts industry in the state,” said Katie Dukes-Walker, director of Art Leadership & Business program. “Students can also get help refining their resumes and CVs from faculty during the career fair.”
Dukes-Walker added: “The combination of the Arts Career Fair and performances at ArtsSplash creates a festive day of community building for everyone to enjoy the arts.”
Dean Smith will begin lunch hour activities with welcoming remarks before performances by Theatre & Dance and Music departments. Food trucks will be present throughout.
Attendees who collect stamps from each department booth in their ArtsSplash Passport can receive a free event T-shirt. Each table will provide information about various departments such as ARTS Lab, Tamarind Institute, Theatre & Dance, Art & Art History, Music, Film and Digital Arts, among others. Updates on plans for a new Fine Arts building—the Center for Collaborative Arts and Technology—will also be shared during this year’s event.
