Recently, there have been concerns about pretrial monitoring practices in Bernalillo County courts. According to a report from KRQE News, some suspects who are required to wear GPS ankle monitors have reportedly been able to avoid this condition and return to the streets without proper supervision. In one instance cited by KRQE News, Jawid Yaqubi was accused of aggravated assault involving a firearm but was released by a judge despite objections from the District Attorney’s office.
