Bernalillo County Parks, Recreation and Open Space is organizing a community meeting on Thursday, August 14, to collect public feedback regarding the future of Sedillo Ridge Open Space. The property spans 3,000 acres and represents more than half of the county’s open space holdings.

The event will be held at the Sandia Ranger Station at 11776 N.M. Highway 337 in Tijeras, with sign-in beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starting at 6 p.m.

Sedillo Ridge was first acquired by Bernalillo County in the early 2000s to prevent development. Since then, additional parcels have been added, including a recent purchase of 50 acres on its southern edge in May 2025 for potential site-specific improvements. The county has already begun vegetation thinning on this land to reduce fire hazards and enhance access.

This meeting marks the fourth step in a master planning process that aims to create a plan for upgrades over the next five years. Attendees will see proposals for new trails connecting to nearby public lands, improved parking and roadways, ecological restoration efforts, and new facilities for future programs.

County staff will be present to answer questions from residents and gather their suggestions about these proposed changes.

For further details about Bernalillo County Open Space properties, information can be found on Bernalillo County’s website.

Meanwhile, other issues facing Bernalillo County include concerns raised by the District Attorney about suspects violating GPS monitoring requirements and being released despite serious charges.
