Bernalillo County is seeking public input on its annual report focused on stormwater quality and environmental protection. The report is part of the county’s efforts to comply with Environmental Protection Agency regulations and its obligations under the Middle Rio Grande National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit.
The Draft Fiscal Year 2025 MS4 Annual Report, which outlines activities such as illicit discharge detection and elimination, construction and post-construction stormwater management, pollution prevention, trash control, and public education, is now available for public review and comment. The public comment period is open until November 14, 2025.
Community members are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft report by emailing water@bernco.gov. The report can be accessed through the following link: DRAFT FY 2025 MS4 Annual Report for NPDES General Permit No. NMR04A000.
Bernalillo County emphasizes the importance of community involvement and transparency in its environmental initiatives. For more information about the MS4 program or stormwater management efforts, residents can contact Kali Bronson at 505-364-3532 or via email at kbronson@bernco.gov.
While the county addresses stormwater quality, other local issues remain in focus. Recently, concerns have been raised by the District Attorney of Bernalillo County regarding suspects violating GPS monitor rules, resulting in some individuals returning to the streets without required monitoring devices. One case involved Jawid Yaqubi, who was accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon but was released by a judge despite efforts by the DA’s office to keep him in custody until trial (https://www.krqe.com/news/crime/bernalillo-county-da-frustrated-over-suspects-breaking-ankle-monitor-rules/).
