Property owners in Bernalillo County have until May 10 to pay their 2025 second-half property taxes without incurring late fees, according to an April 10 announcement from county officials. Those who did not pay the full amount earlier or are not on a payment plan must settle their remaining balance by this deadline.

The payment window is important for both residents and local government operations, as timely tax collection supports essential services. If payments are made after May 10, a one percent penalty will be applied each month, with a minimum charge of five dollars and up to five percent of the total taxes owed. An additional one percent interest fee will also accrue monthly until the full balance is paid.

Payments can be submitted in person at the Treasurer’s Office at 415 Silver Ave. SW, online at www.bernco.gov/treasurer, or by mail. Property owners with questions are encouraged to contact the Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office by phone or email for assistance.

In related news affecting Bernalillo County, concerns have been raised about suspects violating GPS monitor rules and being released back onto the streets when they should remain under supervision. The District Attorney has expressed frustration over these issues according to KRQE. One case cited involves Jawid Yaqubi, who was accused of threatening his sister with a gun and firing a shot near his mother but was released after charges were filed despite efforts from the DA’s office to keep him in custody before trial.

The upcoming property tax deadline serves as a reminder for residents to stay current on obligations that support community resources while ongoing criminal justice challenges highlight broader concerns within Bernalillo County.
