In related county matters, there have been concerns raised by the District Attorney of Bernalillo County regarding suspects who are released without GPS monitors despite being required to wear them. This issue was highlighted in a recent case involving Jawid Yaqubi, who was accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly firing a gun over his mother’s head and threatening his sister in Albuquerque. The District Attorney’s office sought to keep him in custody until trial; however, he was released by a judge.
