Bernalillo County, along with several partners, is offering free rides over Labor Day weekend as part of the “Take a Ride on Us” initiative. The program aims to encourage residents in Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Santa Fe counties to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence.

The offer runs from 10 a.m. on Friday, August 29 through 2 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2. Riders can use the Uber app, select “Vouchers,” and enter the code NMLD25 for up to $10 off two trips. The discount is available for up to 2,500 rides on a first-come, first-served basis and applies only to Uber rides, not Uber Eats or driver tips.

“Take a Ride on Us” was created by Cumulus Media Albuquerque through a public-private partnership that includes Bernalillo County, Sandoval County, Santa Fe County, Glasheen Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers, Sandia Resort & Casino, and the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Since its launch in 2017, the program has provided more than 63,000 safe rides in the Albuquerque metro area during holidays and special events. Bernalillo County funds its contribution using revenue from state liquor excise taxes.

The announcement comes at a time when local law enforcement continues to address public safety concerns related to impaired driving and other offenses. Recently, the District Attorney of Bernalillo County expressed frustration about suspects violating GPS monitoring requirements, highlighting ongoing challenges in keeping communities safe.
