Bernalillo County is organizing a community event for residents to meet the finalists for the county’s next fire chief. The event will take place on Wednesday, August 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Ponderosa Room on the seventh floor of Alvarado Square at 415 Silver Avenue SW.
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the candidates and provide feedback through a QR code rating system. Light refreshments will be served during this casual meet-and-greet.
More information about each of the three finalists can be found on Bernalillo County’s Fire Chief recruitment webpage at https://www.bernco.gov/fire/fire-rescue-chief-recruitment/.
In related county news, concerns remain about public safety as some suspects are released without GPS monitors when they are supposed to have them. The District Attorney of Bernalillo County has expressed frustration over this issue, citing cases such as Jawid Yaqubi, who was accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon but was released by a judge despite efforts by the DA’s office to keep him in custody until trial.
