Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue has announced the death of firefighter Hunter Stamm, who passed away over the weekend while off duty.
Fire Chief Zach Lardy issued a statement following Stamm’s passing:
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Firefighter Hunter Stamm. Hunter was a valued member of our department and his dedication to serving our community will not be forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.”
The Bernalillo County community has recently faced concerns related to public safety and criminal justice issues. The District Attorney of Bernalillo County has expressed frustration that suspects have been released without GPS monitors despite requirements for them, resulting in some individuals returning to the streets when they should be monitored. In one example, Jawid Yaqubi was accused of threatening his sister with a gun and firing a shot near his mother at their home in Albuquerque. Despite being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the DA’s office sought to keep him in custody until trial, but a judge decided to release him. No further information about Firefighter Stamm’s passing has been released by officials.
