The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office has started its post-election voting system check at the county’s Voting Machine Warehouse. This process, required by state law after every statewide election, is intended to verify the accuracy of machine-counted election results.
According to the Clerk’s Office, bipartisan teams of election officials will spend the week verifying ballots under strict chain-of-custody procedures. The process is overseen by a District Court Judge and follows state laws and administrative rules.
The steps involved in the system check are designed to ensure that ballot tabulators worked correctly and that ballots were handled securely from polling places through the final canvass. After completion, results from a hand tally must be submitted to an independent auditor within fourteen working days.
A supplemental fact sheet explaining the process and a list of precincts selected for audit by the Secretary of State have been made available. For further details, residents can visit berncoclerk.gov or contact the Clerk’s Office directly.
