The Bernalillo County Planning & Development Services Department has awarded grant funding to 19 neighborhood associations for various community projects. The grants are part of the county’s annual Neighborhood Grant Program, which aims to encourage collaboration among residents and help create safer, more engaged neighborhoods.

“Community engagement is a vital part of Planning and Development within Bernalillo County, and we are honored to administer this impactful grant program for another year,” said Nick Hamm, Planning & Development Services Director. “We look forward to collaborating with these neighborhoods and seeing their projects come to life in the coming months.”

This year saw a record number of applications for the program. Associations could apply for up to $7,500 for large projects or $2,500 for smaller ones. Funded initiatives include events, murals, educational programs, and community gardens. All funded proposals outlined plans to support local engagement, safety, and development both within individual neighborhoods and across the county.

For additional details about the Neighborhood Grant Program, information is available at Neighborhood Grants – Planning & Development Services.

Meanwhile, public safety remains an ongoing concern in Bernalillo County. The District Attorney has expressed frustration over suspects violating GPS monitor rules and being released back into the community despite efforts by prosecutors to keep them in custody until trial. One recent case involved Jawid Yaqubi, who was accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon but was released by a judge despite objections from the DA’s office.
