Early voting for the City of Albuquerque’s 2025 runoff election will begin on Monday, December 1, at 17 polling locations throughout the city. The runoff is being held for the races of Mayor and City Council Districts 1 and 3, as no candidate in these contests received more than 50 percent of the vote during the regular local election.
County Clerk Michelle S. Kavanaugh encouraged voters to make a plan to participate, noting that “especially with the shorter early voting period and fewer polling places on Election Day compared to November’s election,” it is important for voters to be prepared.
Key dates include early voting from December 1 through December 6, and Election Day on Tuesday, December 9. Voters may also request absentee ballots. For further information, residents can visit BerncoClerk.gov, call (505) 243-VOTE (8683), or email clerk@bernco.gov.
In other recent news related to Bernalillo County, concerns have been raised about suspects violating GPS monitoring rules. The District Attorney has expressed frustration as some individuals who are supposed to wear monitors are ending up back on the streets without them. One such case involved Jawid Yaqubi, who was accused of threatening his sister with a gun and firing a shot over his mother’s head at their Albuquerque home. Despite efforts by the DA’s office to keep him in custody until trial after charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a judge decided to release him.
