Albuquerque has been recognized as one of the top 10 large cities in the United States for economic growth, according to a recent report by Coworking Cafe. The city was ranked ninth nationwide based on its performance in several key areas, including GDP, employment, earnings, housing, trade, and infrastructure.
Between 2019 and 2023, Albuquerque’s gross domestic product and median earnings each increased by 30%. The study awarded the city 53.4 points for its overall progress during this period. Investments in infrastructure, housing, and workforce development have played a significant role in driving these gains.
Programs such as Job Training Albuquerque (JTA) and the Small Business Office (SBO) have contributed to this growth. Since its launch in 2020, JTA has provided training to over 3,500 workers and helped raise wages by an average of 25%. The SBO has supported nearly 1,900 businesses and offered coaching to more than 400 entrepreneurs since July 2023.
“Albuquerque’s ranking shows that the city’s strategy to invest in residents is paying off,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We are building a city that works for everyone.”
“Albuquerque is the economy of opportunity,” said Economic Development Director Max Gruner. “Here, people don’t just live; they build, grow, and thrive.”
Other cities featured alongside Albuquerque in the ranking include Austin, Sacramento, Jacksonville, Phoenix, and Fort Worth.
