Mayor Tim Keller has announced the launch of Lot Reimagined, a new program from Albuquerque’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) that will make vacant city-owned lots available for temporary community use. The initiative aims to give local entrepreneurs and community groups access to these spaces at low cost, allowing them to engage with the public and gain visibility.

“Vacant spaces don’t have to sit empty! They can be reimagined as gathering places that bring our community together,” said Mayor Keller. “With Lot Reimagined, we’re turning challenges into opportunities by opening these lots to entrepreneurs and community groups who want to bring activity, pride, and energy into our city.”

The program encourages activities such as pop-up markets, performances, art installations, and family-friendly events on the vacant lots. These short-term activations are intended to boost creativity and innovation while supporting the local economy by providing a platform for organizations and individuals to present their work. The effort focuses on Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas—parts of Albuquerque that have faced long-term disinvestment—to ensure revitalization reaches neighborhoods most in need.

According to city officials, all available lots will eventually be redeveloped, with some projects already being planned. In the meantime, Lot Reimagined offers an immediate way for residents to experience visible changes in their neighborhoods.

“This program is about creativity and momentum,” said Terry Brunner, Director of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency. “Big redevelopment projects often take time before you can see visible progress on the ground. Lot Reimagined allows the community to step in and bring these lots to life right away, giving neighborhoods a chance to see change and feel energy in these spaces while we work toward the larger, long-term vision.”

Lots included in this initiative are located in several key redevelopment areas throughout Albuquerque: Downtown, East Gateway, Near Heights, and Sawmill/Wells Park. By making these properties available for short-term use led by local groups or individuals, city leaders hope not only to support creative ideas but also encourage long-term investment and neighborhood pride.

A free webinar is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025 at noon (MST) for those interested in applying. The session will explain eligibility requirements and provide guidance on submitting proposals.

More information about Lot Reimagined—including details about available lots—can be found on the MRA website.
