The City of Albuquerque held a ceremony to honor the promotion of 13 members of Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR). The event, attended by Mayor Tim Keller and Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo, recognized firefighters who advanced to officer ranks, including four Battalion Chiefs, seven Captains, and two Lieutenants.
The ceremony highlighted the effort and commitment required for these promotions. According to the city, the new badges and bugles signify rank, but also represent the extensive training and preparation involved in achieving these positions. The department noted that its ability to adapt to community needs relies on the leadership of those promoted.
Mayor Tim Keller commented on the importance of AFR’s work and ongoing support for its members. “AFR continues to be one of the finest and busiest fire departments in the nation,” Keller said. “These firefighters have stepped up for our families, and we’re stepping up for them and this department by hiring cadet classes, building new stations, getting better equipment and improved training facilities. Today’s ceremony and promotions embody all of these efforts.”
Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo emphasized the significance of leadership within AFR. “13 promotions at the officer ranks are exciting for the future of the department,” Jaramillo said. “These are the leaders that set the expectations of the crew and ensure that standards are met. Congratulations to all those promoted and thank you for your devotion to AFR and commitment to Albuquerque.”
Special recognition was given during the event to Taylor Black, along with crews from Station 8 and Station 12, for their response to a pediatric drowning incident in July. The crew from Station 11 was also acknowledged for their actions during a structure fire in July.
