The Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) will activate sprinklers in five parks on August 5 and another five parks on August 6 as part of “Operation Cooldown 2025,” a response to forecasted triple-digit temperatures. The initiative offers families a free way to cool off during the hottest part of the day.
On August 5, from 1 to 1:30 p.m., sprinklers will run at Briar Ridge Park, Alamosa Park, Chelwood Park, 4-H Park, and Ridgecrest Park. On August 6, the same hours apply for Redlands Park, Loma del Norte Park, Singing Arrow Park, Dennis Chavez Park, and Aztec Park.
Each group includes a park near the Sunport Pool service area since that pool is closed for repairs. PRD has stated it balances daytime watering by adjusting irrigation systems at other times to conserve water.
Additionally, all City indoor pools have returned to fall/winter hours as of today. Outdoor pools are now operating on a reduced schedule through Labor Day due to decreased demand and staffing when school begins. The Rio Grande Pool is open weekdays for lap swim from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., except for August 5 when it will be closed; its last day of operation this season is September 1. Eisenhower Pool, Sierra Vista Pool, and Wilson Pool are closed on weekdays but open weekends through September 1. Montgomery Pool and East San Jose Pool are closed for the season.
City spray pads remain available with varying schedules. Alamosa Spray Pad operates daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through October 12; Civic Plaza Spray Pad runs daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; North Domingo Baca is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wells Park Spray Pad operates Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., ending September 1.
