With summer temperatures in Albuquerque often reaching the 90s and even low 100s, the ABQ BioPark has outlined measures it takes to keep its animals comfortable during hot weather. According to a recent announcement, animal care staff use several strategies to help animals stay cool, including providing access to temperature-controlled indoor spaces, offering ice and water enrichment activities, and distributing frozen treats. Animals that are more accustomed to cooler climates receive extra support and cooling options.

The ABQ BioPark holds accreditations from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums as well as certification from American Humane. “As an Association of Zoos and Aquariums accredited and American Humane certified facility, we are committed to excellence in animal well-being, ensuring our animals are comfortable and healthy,” the organization stated.

Community members can support these efforts by becoming members of the ABQ BioPark. Membership funds go directly toward animal care needs, while also providing benefits such as unlimited admission, discounts, and special invitations. More information about membership is available at https://nmbioparksociety.org.

“Thank you for supporting your ABQ BioPark!” the announcement concluded.
