Esme Abaddi MacIntosh led the University of New Mexico (UNM) women’s swimming and diving team in the 3-meter dive at the Mardi Gras Invitational in New Orleans, securing first place with a score of 269.25. UNM also had Alice English finish fourth and Reed Moyer fifth in the same event. The team swept all available points in the 3-meter diving competition, which included divers from four teams, although not all completed every round.
Despite their strong performance in diving, UNM lost its opening dual meet to UALR with a score of 54-30. The Mardi Gras Invitational featured seven swimming events per dual meet, with each swimmer allowed to compete in only two events, including relays. Only two athletes per team could score points under a 5-3-2-1 format.
In relay events, UNM secured second place twice: Rian Bleyendaal, Emily Ford, Sophia Corder, and Arianna Stokes finished the 200 medley relay in 1:48.88; Stokes, Liv Hann, Bleyendaal, and Ava Schlosser placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.93.
Liv Hann set a personal best in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.46. Sophia Corder also achieved a personal record by finishing the 100 IM in 1:01.36.
The invitational continues on Saturday as UNM faces Tulane in the morning and North Texas later that afternoon. The morning session will include eight races and the 1-meter dive; the afternoon session returns to seven races along with a team diving competition for scoring.
“Abaddi-MacIntosh had no worries, winning with a 269.25 score.”
