The City of Albuquerque announced on May 15 the schedule for the 2026 New Mexico Juneteenth Celebration, inviting residents to participate in a series of events honoring freedom, resilience, and community triumph. The celebration includes cultural performances, educational workshops, and markets featuring local Black-owned businesses.

Organizers say these events are intended to foster connections among attendees while celebrating African American history and culture. The city encourages participation from volunteers, vendors, and community members to help strengthen collective bonds. “Whether you participate as a volunteer, a vendor, or a passionate attendee, your presence strengthens our collective voice and honors our shared history,” organizers said in the announcement.

Events will begin with the Juneteenth Renaissance Heart of ABQ 6.6k on Saturday, May 23 at Expo New Mexico State Fair Grounds Racewalk & Festival. Other highlights include Ujima Collective Night Market & DJ Pool Party on June 5 at Secret Gallery inside Arrive Hotel; Solidarity and Healing Space Mindful Somatic Practice on June 13 at Open Space Visitor Center; several celebrations across Civic Plaza, Isotopes Park, Taos Art Museum @ Fechin House; Rio Rancho; Santa Fe Plaza; as well as art showcases and BBQs throughout June.

The City of Albuquerque has long served as a cultural landmark through venues like the KiMo Theatre—fostering community gatherings and artistic expression over decades—as outlined on theater’s history page. The city also maintains historic sites such as the KiMo Theatre with its unique Pueblo Deco architecture detailed on its official history page.

Albuquerque’s government operates under a council structure that sets goals for civic engagement across nine geographic districts shaped by historical developments like the railroad era in New Mexico—according to the city’s timeline. Council members elect leadership annually to guide meetings and approve budgets while maintaining a merit system described by the official website.

Contact information for event details is provided through Neema Pickett at the Office of Black Community Engagement.
