Albuquerque’s scenic West Mesa is set to become a hub for film and television production with the development of Mesa Film Studios (MFS) on City-owned property along Atrisco Vista Blvd. The first phase of the project, with an estimated capital investment of $57 million on a 60-acre site, is expected to create numerous job opportunities and have a significant economic impact.

Mayor Tim Keller expressed gratitude for the partnerships that have facilitated the project, stating, “Film and TV production is happening in full force in Albuquerque... This major development on the west side will bring thousands of jobs to the city, and create more opportunities for locals to thrive in the growing industry.”

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham emphasized the significance of the film and TV production industry in New Mexico, stating, “This exciting announcement is yet another indication that the film and TV production industry is here to stay... establishing itself as a major film ecosystem that will continue to generate economic opportunities for businesses of all kinds.”

Galen Walker, Co-Principal/Co-Owner of Mesa Film Studios and a fifth generation New Mexican, expressed his excitement about returning to his home state to establish the studio. He highlighted the impact the studio will have on boosting the state’s film industry and bringing high-quality jobs to the Albuquerque area.

Amber Dodson, the New Mexico Film Office Director, emphasized the importance of the Mesa Studios development in Albuquerque in maintaining the state's competitiveness in attracting large-scale productions. She noted, “With the lack of quality soundstages in North America, the new Mesa Studios development in Albuquerque would help New Mexico remain competitive in capturing large-scale, job-rich productions that could otherwise go to competing locations.”

Economic Development Director Max Gruner highlighted the broader impact of the Mesa Film Studios project, stating, “It's not just about creating good-paying jobs—it's about sparking growth that has a ripple effect, supporting other local industries, and adding to the city’s economic prosperity.”

The lease agreement between Mesa Film Studios and the City of Albuquerque has been finalized and is set to be considered by City Council at an upcoming meeting on March 18.
