Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following announcement on March 30.
For individuals who fall under the category of Independent contractor, self-employed, or gig economy worker, do not contact the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Operations center or file a claim online until the department announces the availability of benefits. The department anticipates Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits will become available in a few weeks.
Announcements will be made when the additional PUA benefits will be offered for independent contractors, self-employed, and gig economy workers.
